NUMSA appears to have toned down the nature of the protest action initially planned for 26 February 2014.We previously advised that NUMSA has lodged a Section 77 Application in respect of the Employment Tax Incentive Act.  The NEDLAC Section 77 Committee subsequently convened a meeting of the parties on 3 February 2014 and again on 14 February 2014. The latter meeting ended in a deadlock and Nedlac declared the matter considered.

According to information published on NUMSA’s website, a national strike calling for “jobs for youth” will take place on 19 March 2014, subject to NUMSA filing a section 77 (1)(d) notice to give the required 14 days’ notice of the intended protest action / strike.

We will circulate further communication as soon as we receive confirmation that formal notice of the intended protest action has been filed.
