The National Petroleum Employers’ Association (NPEA) representing all the major oil companies, and labour unions CEPPWAWU (Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union), Solidarity and the SA Chemical Workers Union has signed a two-year wage agreement covering around 10 000 skilled workers.

The first year of the agreement would see employees receive a 8.5% wage increase, and would be effective from 1 July 2014. The wage increase for year two will be the April 2015 CPI plus an improvement factor of 1.5%.
The agreement was concluded following three rounds of negotiations under the auspices of the National Bargaining Council for the Chemical Industry.
