Effective from 1 July 2014, the annual earning threshold has been increased from R193 805 to R205 433 per annum.

Effectively this means that the provisions of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act pertaining to ordinary hours of work, overtime, compressed working weeks, averaging of hours of work, meal intervals, rest intervals and Sunday and Public Holiday payments will not automatically apply to individuals who earn more than R17 119.44 (previously R16 150) per month.
