The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities made a recommendation to the Development Chamber recently  that the 16 December, 26 December and Easter Monday be deleted from the public holiday calendar as they believe that the Public Holiday Act entrenched some religious days to the exclusion of the other religious days of other religious groups.  In essence these deleted days will become free days which can be used by the people to celebrate their different religions, cultures and beliefs instead of being forced to take leave from work for these deleted days.

Please note that this is only a proposal at this stage.  We will keep you informed of further developments in this regard.
