An opportunity currently exists for employers to take part in an Employer Based Apprentice Training Program  in partnership with Public TVET Colleges funded jointly by DHET and SETA’s.

Employers are able to reduce recruitment cost by appointing qualified artisans directly from TVET Colleges and extending opportunities to these artisans in their workplace. There are also SETA grants to the value of R165 000 per apprentice paid directly to CoS apprentice employers in tranches by participating SETA’s.

In addition to the benefit of reduced recruitment costs and SETA funds to go towards stipends; apprentices will receive free institutional training at the CoS TVET Colleges paid for by DHET as part of the Ministers Budget and employers will qualify for tax rebates as per the table below:

Interested employers must complete an expression of interest form and indicate number of apprentices and trades they require. All interested employers must have Qualified Artisans (Trade tested red seal) available in the organisation. The required ratios are as follows:

Boiler Maker & Welder 1:4

Millwright 1:4

Electrician 1:2

Rigger 1:3

Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner and Pipe Fitter 1:4

Bricklayer and Carpenter & Joiner 1:5
