About the event

Disciplinary enquiries are high-stakes: small procedural errors, weak charge wording, or poor evidence handling can turn a strong case into an expensive dispute. This live, in-person workshop gives HR, ER, line managers, initiators and chairpersons the practical skills to manage disciplinary matters properly from start to finish. You will work through how to investigate allegations, identify and weigh different types of evidence, structure the hearing process, and present a clear case. You will also learn how a chairperson should evaluate evidence and reach findings based on a balance of probabilities, using fairness checklists and decision-making flow diagrams to ensure both procedural and substantive fairness. The session includes updates from recent case law and practical guidance for conducting hearings virtually.

What you will cover:

  • Dismissal decision-making flow diagrams;

  • Rules of natural justice;

  • Preliminary investigations and evidence types;

  • Classifying dismissals;
