The Communication Directorate of the Department of Labour has announced the following minimum wages that will be effective from 1 December 2015:

Domestic Worker Sector (Sectoral Determination 7):

In major metropolitan areas, employees who work more than 27 hours a week should be paid not less than an hourly rate of R 11.44 and employees who work less than 27 hours a week should be paid not less than an hourly rate of R 13.39.

In other areas employees who work more than 27 hours a week should be paid not less than an hourly rate of R 10.23 and or those who work less than 27 hours a week should be paid not less than an hourly rate of R 12.07.

Contract Cleaning sector (Sectoral Determination 1):

The minimum wages for vulnerable workers in the Contract Cleaning Sector will also be adjusted as follows, with the exclusion of areas governed by Bargaining Councils:

In Area A – the Metropolitan Councils (City of Cape Town, Greater East Rand Metro, City of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Nelson Mandela) and Local Councils (Emfuleni, Merafong, Mogale City, Metsimaholo, Randfontein, Stellenbosch, Westonaria) employees should be paid no less than R18.01 per hour and in the rest of South Africa no less than R16.41 per hour.
