About The Event

With the Labour Laws Amendment Act introducing extended parental, adoption, and commissioning parental leave, managing absenteeism has become more complex and more critical than ever. This workshop delivers the insight and tools you need to maintain productivity, ensure compliance, and deal decisively with leave abuse.

Delegates will gain a clear understanding of how to identify problematic patterns, verify legitimate absences, and apply consistent and legally sound processes when managing employee attendance. The session will also unpack how COVID-19-related leave, combined with new categories like adoption and surrogacy leave, have expanded overall leave exposure for employers.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Overview of all leave types and their legal frameworks

  • Calculating the annual cost of leave to the employer

  • Identifying leave abuse patterns and red flags

  • Determining valid medical certificates and evidentiary requirements

  • Implementing an effective process flow to manage and address abuse

  • Tracking all leave types in compliance with Labour Relations and BCEA standards

  • Real-world case studies and best-practice guidance for HR and line managers.

By attending, you’ll learn to balance compliance and operational efficiency, protect against abuse, and develop a proactive absence management framework aligned with South African labour law.
